Safetynet is a mailing list for anyone who wants to discuss and share information to support the development of e-safety good practice within educational organisations. This forum is for teachers, Local Authority personnel and others who have an interest and or responsibility in this area. It has been set up to provide:

Safetynet is an open discussion group. This means that anyone with an interest in this area is welcome to participate in the discussions. All discussions will be publicly available and when you post a message, your email address will be visible to registered users.

All messages sent to Safetynet are stored in a publicly available archive. Archives are provided as an additional resource to users and enables non members to browse the messages. The archive also means that you do not have to save every message you receive from this discussion group.

Using Safetynet
To post a message to all the list members, send email to safetynet@lists.education.gov.uk.

By emailing and/or subscribing to the Safetynet mailing list, you agree to follow the Department for Educations acceptable use policy. Please ensure you read it before signing up. Anyone not following this policy may have their email deleted and be removed from the mailing list if a registered user.

Subscribing to Safetynet

Subscribe to Safetynet by filling out the following form. This is a hidden list, which means that the list of members is available only to the list administrator. Safetynet is reactively moderated. The Department for Education (DfE) commit to never censoring a discussion and/or amending messages due to content and/or views expressed, as long as messages comply with the rules established by the forum (see below) and the DfE acceptable use policy.

The details you provide on the registration form will be used only to supply you with the services you have selected. These details will be collected via email and stored electronically in a database in accordance with the current data protection legislation and as set out in the DfE privacy and data protection statement. http://www.education.gov.uk/help/legalinformation/a005240/privacy-statement. You will be sent email requesting confirmation, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. This is a private list, which means that the list of members is not available to non-members.

    You may enter a privacy password below. This provides only mild security, but should prevent others from messing with your subscription. Do not use a valuable password as it will occasionally be emailed back to you in cleartext.

    If you choose not to enter a password, one will be automatically generated for you, and it will be sent to you once you've confirmed your subscription. You can always request a mail-back of your password when you edit your personal options. Once a month, your password will be emailed to you as a reminder.

Acceptable use policy

By emailing and/or subscribing to the Safetynet forum mailing list, you are expected to follow the DfE acceptable use policy and follow the rules established for the Safetynet forum by its members to:

  • ensure all members feel confident that they are not open to abuse or harassment;
  • not use the forum for purposes of advertising and marketing products or services except those that are free resources that are in the context of this forum.
