Hi Jacqui,
Like all of these issues you first need to understand the cognitive differences / disabilties which can cause the observed problems including Dyscalculia. There aree many who like to market their prefered remedial programs but who lack any real understanding of the underlying issues, you mentioned one in your post. This could really of some interest especially as it has been identified that many practicing teachers have problems understanding basic maths.
So your daughter could well be well advised to try to understand the neurology of why we can have problems with maths processing. I have an online PubMed Dyscalculia research paper collection http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/myncbi/collections/public/1-aX37eba6brhp13hx_su-d/ which she may find a useful start. (When you select a paper from one of these collections PubMed usually provides 5 realted citations, and a list of the following research papers that have cited that specific paper, on the right side of the screen)
best wishes
Graeme

She is interested in Dyscalculia and recently did some training with the BDA.She will have a very low ability maths YR7 maths set next year. I read on the forum that a new test is being developed but obviously there is nothing to indicate at the moment that there might be a Dyscalculia problem. Can anyone recommend a diagnostic test so that gaps in learning can be identified and addressed? Online or paper based? Children's levels likely to be L2/3 many thanks jacquiw -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Takes a bit of time but is well worth it. It is aimed at primary but I have found it really good in secondary as well because the gaps in the basics are the same in dyscalculia whatever the age. best wishes Julia Rowlandson ======================================== Message Received: Mar 23 2012, 06:09 PM From: "jacqui wellbrook" To: senco-forum at lists.education.gov.uk Cc: Subject: [Senco-forum] Dyscalculia Hello lovely forum peopleMy daughter is a secondary maths teacher.
