I have recently had two students referred to me for not finishing their mock
exam papers. When I assessed them they did not meet the criteria for extra
time. However, they both said that they found it really difficult to
concentrate in the exam hall because it was so quiet. I wonder if anyone
else has come across this problem. The second student is an A grade - she
finished three questions to A grade standard but failed to answer the third
question. I started talking to her about planning her time in exams. She
said that she had had plenty of time to answer the last question but lost
concentration because the room was so quiet. She did not think a prompter
would help.
Do other students have the same issues? Is this going to be a phenomena
today because students who constantly surrounded by noise?
